Hike at Cascade Head Trail

On Saturday the 21st of March Kara Zachman was out here visiting us, and we really wanted to go for a nice hike. So being the outdoors-person she is, she lead us to this really nice hike just North on Hwy 101 of Lincoln City, OR. It was about a 6 mile hike round trip. It started off with a woodsy type feel. About a mile or so in, it became hilly and grassy. We made it to the top for a fabulous view that was well worth it. On the way back down we managed to spot 5 elk in close proximity. Here is the Proof:

After the hike we got in the car and headed to a nice beach spot, Pacific City, OR. It is only about a 20 minute drive from Lincoln City up the 101. When we got there we took the dogs for some playing on the beach while Ross put together his kite and flew it high up in the sky!!

We were then getting really hungry from all that hiking, kite flying, and playing with the dogs...time to eat!! Luckily there is an awesome brew pub conveniently located on the beach!! Pelican Brew Pub!! YEAH!!

Daytona 380

So, I am kind of backtracking and new to the whole blog thing but...I am going to turn the time tables and go back a couple of months or so. I got a phone call from y dad, he was asking what I was doing for Valentines Day weekend. I told him that I would probably be hanging out with Ashley. I asked him, "why"? He replied, "do you want to go to the Daytona 500 with me and Jeff"? I said hell yeah!!

So we looked at plane tickets and they weren't too bad. I think they were a little under $300 from Portland to Orlando, Fl. So we all bought tickets to Orlando (tix to Daytona were way more expensive) and rented a car and drove to our Days in in Orange City, FL (about 30 miles from the track).

We got in late Friday night the 13th, I know, kind of spooky. We were looking for a place to eat, and found this place called "Gators" and got "The Sampler Platter" and to my surprise it was buy one get one free budweiser night, SCORE!! So we finished dinner there and went to our overpriced Day's Inn ($190.00/night).

The next morning we had to get to it considering the Busch race was starting at 4 o'clock Saturday. We hopped in the van in search for the track. Not to our surprise, traffic was backed up for a couple of miles. As we got closer to the speedway we needed a place to eat and a place to park. Since everything was very busy we ended up going to the Waffle House.

You know, the food isnt the greatest for you, but it wasnt all that bad i guess. The best part was, they offered event parking, and gave us twenty dollars off of our meal. NICE!! It was a little over a mile walk, but we have arms and legs so it didnt seem that bad because we were too excited about going to the track.
